Water Coil Factoids

Water coil trivia can come in handy when you run out of sports trivia over beers with your HVAC buddies. Here are some water coil factoids to impress your friends:

• Water-tube boilers date back almost 2,000 years.

• Chilled water has been the primary medium for heat transfer from building coils to refrigeration systems since the beginning of modern HVAC design.

• The first modern water-tube boiler was invented by William Blakely in 1796

• A hot water coil and chilled water coil are often viewed as completely different, but a water coil is equally capable of handling hot and chilled water.

• Chilled water coils are often used for comfort cooling, dehumidifying, heat reclamation and process cooling.

• Hot water coils are often used for booster heating, comfort heating, fluid process heat, preheating, reheating, and waste heat reclamation.

• The construction of hot water coils and chilled water coils is similar, including tube diameter, fin design and wall thickness.

• A hot water coil typically has one or two rows, while a chilled water coil has three or more rows.

• Fluid pressure drop and fluid velocity are critical to the operation and longevity of water coils.Give us a call if we can help with your water coil needs. Cheers!
